Final Week in CTM
Family!
So I just started my ninth week today and we don't even have a full week. We leave four days earlier than most missionaries. I am not exactly sure what the count is on missionaries going to the Porto Alegre North mission but I know that there are 9 from our district, two from our next door neighbor district and then a couple of missionaries from some other districts.
I am for the first time a regular missionary now here at the CTM. They called a new assistant and I have trained him and I now have no leadership position. Its kind of nice! We had a bunch of meeting about departure and what its going to be like. I am not going to lie, the CTM was very difficult. We have been asked to keep our e-mails positive and not include anything negative. If you want to talk about any of the challenges and rough experiences I have had here, I guess you will have to wait until I get home.
The flight to Porto Alegre is a couple of hours long. We go from the airport to the mission home where they will meet with us, tell us some important things and then send us on our way. We then go by ourselves to our trainer by bus. I am not exactly sure how all of that is going to work out. By late afternoon Friday I will be out in the field with a trainer and everything.
We went proselyting on Friday. What a crazy adventure so many stories to tell. My time is limited so I will tell you the highlights. We were proselyting around a big cathedral, which was wierd because in the mission handbook we are asked not to proselyt around other religious buildings. The CTM had assigned us this spot. It was a big metro station with a big cathedral there. A bunch of people were in front of the cathedral selling all kinds of stuff. Elder Barker and I walked up to a guy who looked about our age, his name was lucas. We were talking to him about the Book of Mormon and he told us that he has been studying the bible. He seemed very interested in what we had to say. As we were in the middle of our message, some other man walked up to him and told him that the Book of Mormon is a good book and that he needs to read it. He then turned to us and told us that we are angels and walked away. It was kind of random but it helped us with our message. After we had finished and were just making some friendly conversation when Sister Hatton and Sister Baird walked up and said hi. We introduced them to Lucas and all of the sudden he picked up the tray of candy that he had be selling and took off running down the street. We looked around and everyone was running and screaming. People were running all over the place, total chaos. The police had showed up, apparently it is illegal to sell goods out on the street like they were. It was pretty funny. After Lucas we were looking for Irma Amato and had found her with Elder Gibby and Elder Anderson. We were going to ask her where we were allowed to go. We had only one BOM left and Elders Gibby and Anderson had none. Were were all talking when a lady came down the street and we started talking to her. It turns out that she thought god didnt love her and went another way to work that day and we were the answer to her prayers. It was pretty crazy.
Sorry I had to summarize that I have like a minute left of typing. I am timed.
Sister Hatton has spent the last two days in the hospital. She is okay and is coming back today. We thought she had problems with her appendix, everything is fine.
Love you
